MetroPhotonics Secures Lead Customers for SurePath MonitorTM

<P><BR>Ottawa, Canada – Nov. 3, 2004 – <A href="http://www.iccsz.com/site/CN/Search.aspx?page=1&keywords=MetroPhotonics&column_id=ALL&station=%E5%85%A8%E9%83%A8" target="_blank">MetroPhotonics</a> Inc., a leading developer of photonic integrated circuits, today announced customer orders for its SurePath MonitorTM from a second Japanese customer through its distribution relationship with Mitsubishi Corporation. In both cases the customers are undertaking cost and footprint reductions to existing line-cards on DWDM transport platforms sold worldwide.</P> <P><A href="http://www.iccsz.com/site/CN/Search.aspx?page=1&keywords=MetroPhotonics&column_id=ALL&station=%E5%85%A8%E9%83%A8" target="_blank">MetroPhotonics</a> SurePath MonitorTM product offers high speed monitoring of DWDM channels enabling advanced control and protection within today’s networks. Offered as a standalone component for direct embedding or as a standalone controller solution the product offers very low profile, low power consumption, high speed and a low cost from its semiconductor manufacturing processes. “We are naturally pleased to have secured this second customer in Japan and the ongoing design wins” explained Adrian O’Donnell, Metro Photonics President and Chief Technology Officer. “That both customers are using the products as the basis of fundamental redesigns on current production line cards across their DWDM system portfolio is particularly important”, O’Donnell noted adding “given the customers requirements of significant cost reductions and line card integration are uniquely met with our products.”</P> <P>The SurePath MonitorTM is the lead product from <A href="http://www.iccsz.com/site/CN/Search.aspx?page=1&keywords=MetroPhotonics&column_id=ALL&station=%E5%85%A8%E9%83%A8" target="_blank">MetroPhotonics</a> using its proprietary Vertical Monomode Integration (VMITM) technology which provides a very low cost manufacturing platform for monolithic integration of active and passive functions. “Having established these core design rules and building blocks in our own 4” fabrication facility has meant we’re able to offer very high performance components at price targets that meet the industry requirements,” explained O’Donnell. “This is further visible with our new products which are being well received by customers for applications from the edge through to the core” added O’Donnell. Products sampling to customers in the next quarter include monolithic DWDM receivers, wavelength blockers and FTTH triplexers.
